Delivering safety and quality for Hudd student living

Originally famed for its textile manufacturing, Huddersfield now has a growing reputation as a bustling university destination.

To reflect the increasing need for better student halls and accommodation, Truman has been appointed to deliver remedial works and the full refurbishment of two empty accommodation blocks on Manchester Road. Constructed in 2019 by another developer, the two blocks were subject to a prohibition notice when the cladding and internal fire protection works were judged to be unsafe.

To deliver a safe and viable development, Truman will be carrying out:

  • The removal and replacement of the existing cladding

  • Extensive internal fire protection works

  • The refurbishments of the studio bedrooms

  • And the creation of new communal spaces including study areas, private kitchens, dining areas, media rooms and a gym.

Working with our client, Hudd Student Living, Truman will be delivering the works in time for the 2023 cohort of students. Tasked with working within a tight timeframe, Truman worked closely with the client to meet their key requirements. Namely, the delivery of a safe and compliant development that’s also financially viable.

By taking a proactive approach with key consultants and the supply chain, we were able to deliver an effective solution that guaranteed the best standard of safety whilst also ensuring the financial viability of the project for our client.

We’re excited to be delivering a fantastic end to a long-running project and look forward to the first cohort of students enjoying the accommodation blocks in the new academic year.
